TopGear.com.ph Philippine Car News - Ferrari, Shell celebrates 500th grand prix in Singapore

This weekend's Singapore Grand Prix marks a milestone for both Ferrari and Shell as the race marks the 500th Grand Prix between the two entities as partners in the sport--a milestone which the Italian carmaker calls "a great example of a technical and commercial relationship in both the field of motorsports and the motor industry."

The collaboration between Shell and Ferrari is the longest in the history of Formula 1, having started back in 1920 when Shell first collaborated with Enzo Ferrari, who was still a race driver then with Alfa Romero. The partnership continued when Ferrari established his Scuderia Ferrari racing team in 1950 in time for the Monaco Grand Prix, the second race of the very first season of Formula 1.

To mark the milestone, both Scuderia Ferrari F2012 cars will carry a special "Shell 500 Races" logo on their rear wing for the race. In addition, for the last round of the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific, which will run as a support race to the Singapore Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari test driver Marc Gene will take part in the race at the wheel of a 458 Italia Challenge, which will be adorned with the "Shell 500 Races" logo and wrapped in a livery specially designed for the event.
