Ford has finally revealed the production version of its EcoSport compact SUV. According to the American carmaker, it'll be built in China, India, Thailand and Brazil.
"The all-new EcoSport is designed and engineered specifically for customers in global growth markets using Ford's global SUV engineering expertise and reflecting our commitments for quality, leading fuel economy, safety and smart technology," said Raj Nair, Ford's group vice president for global product development. "We're delivering innovative products like this to drive our global growth."
The Ecosport will reportedly be offered with a number of powertrain solutions, including Ford's newest and most advanced engine in the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine. With an output of 118hp and 170Nm of torque, the EcoSport with the aforementioned EcoBoost engine "is designed to be a benchmark in fuel efficiency."
The vehicle's exterior design has been aerodynamically honed for fuel economy; proof of this are the taillights that have a small deflector built in to its design and the rear spoiler that's integrated to the roof and the rear hatch.
Inside, the compact SUV offers a stylish, modern and well-equipped cabin interior that's spacious enough to accommodate five people and their gear. Besides Ford's Sync system with voice control feature, the EcoSport also has a smart keyless entry system, a power start system, and a cooled bin in the glovebox. To take the stress out of driving, the vehicle also comes with an array of driver-assist features including hill launch assist and rear parking sensors.
"The new Ford SUV’s main characteristics were defined by consumers in all of the regions in which it will be sold," Ford said in a statement. "The design and flexible use are part of the new vehicle's differentiated plan, which besides the agility and practicality for urban use, offers power and robustness for more adverse terrain."
Ford first revealed the EcoSport as a concept SUV at the New Delhi Auto Expo last January.
