"The Concept You gives a good indication of what you can expect from our next large sedan," said Volvo Car chief executive and president Stefan Jacoby. "The blend of contemporary Scandinavian design, exquisite craftmanship and intuitive technology will appeal to luxury car buyers all over the world."
And by "all over," Jacoby means the Concept You was designed to please not only the swanky European market but the growing number of luxury-product buyers as well--a need that was met by Volvo's design group.
"The fastback profile mirrors a strong trend among European buyers. With growing signs that Chinese 'taste buds' are moving rapidly in the same direction, our main aim is to explore how daring our next large sedan should be in order to be a global success."
Here are some key features that make the Concept You Volvo's best bet for the future of luxury motoring:
1. Touch-control cockpit. Volvo has designed an uncluttered console with four main areas: the digital Driver Information Monitor, a head-up display on the windscreen, a touch-screen in the upper part of the center console and a touch-screen between the two individual rear seats. "Certain functions, such as surfing the Web, are only accessible from the passenger side while the car is rolling. The technology knows who is the present operator and adapts itself automatically," says Peter Horbury.
2. Air-powered sound system. The Volvo Concept You is equipped with a yet-to-be released FreshAir subwoofer from Alpine. According to Volvo, the sound system is being designed to be as light as possible without compromising sound quality.
3. A combination of leather, suede and suit fabric. With all the luxury packed in the car, Volvo might as well dress it up in a suit, right? The Concept You has four individual seats--off-black in front with a suede center and soft beige at the rear. "The back of the front seats and the door panels feature exclusive Italian fabric and designs from Swedish fashion house Oscar Jacobson.
