In our industry, we rarely see official announcements of partnerships that have ended. From the media side, sometimes the only clue we have is the dormancy coming from the marketing department. Then you see dealer facades replaced or shuttered. After that, an off-the-record exchange usually confirms what we notice.

But in an email today, a rare statement was issued. SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, the parent company of Maxus, and AC Industrials, the Ayala Corporation industrial technology arm, announced that they were ending their partnership for the distribution of Maxus vehicles in the country after seven years. Both companies said they see this as a strategic step, allowing both entities to, “realign and focus on their respective core strengths in response to shifting market dynamics.”

Existing Maxus owners can still avail of after-sales support through this transition stage. Customers can conveniently book service appointments via https://maxus.ph/.

“As this chapter concludes, AC Industrials takes pride in having played a role in Maxus’ growth within the dynamic Philippine automotive industry,” said Dana Uson, Head of Strategy of AC Industrials Mobility Group. “This transition reflects our continued focus on shaping the future of mobility, and as the industry evolves, we remain committed to advancing innovative and sustainable mobility solutions for the Philippine market.”

The state-owned Chinese carmaker also expressed its gratitude. “We are grateful to AC Industrials for their dedication and collaboration over the past seven years,” said Frank Wu, Head of Overseas Business, SAIC Maxus International Limited. “Their efforts laid a strong foundation for Maxus in the market, and we remain committed to supporting Filipino customers and partners as we continue to expand our global presence.”

SAIC still has a major brand in our market, and that’s MG. So it’s still possible for Maxus to make a comeback in the future.
