Remember Chery? This Chinese brand was all over the place not too long ago (particularly in mini hatchback form), but after passing from one distributor to the next, it seemingly just faded away from the market. Now, a new distributor is reviving the brand in the Philippines.

United Asia Automotive Group (UAAGI) will be taking the reins and has sent out an invite for the official launch on November 27, 2019. If the name of the new owner sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the same outfit behind Foton, another Chinese marque

Based on the invite, we have a pretty good idea on which vehicle will take center stage for Chery’s grand return. The invite features the grille of the Tiggo 7, a compact crossover. In China, it runs on a 1.5-liter turbopetrol with 145hp and 210Nm mated to either a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox or a six-speed manual, and a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter with 121hp and 180Nm paired to a CVT. The turbo tops out at 185kph while the 2.0-liter can reach 170kph. Its tech goodies include a nine-inch infotainment screen, smartphone connnectivity, push-button start, smart-steering fog lamps, and a 360-degree camera system.
