Fare hikes for jeepneys, buses, taxis, and TNVS take effect today

A round of public transport fare hikes is set to take effect today, September 28, 2026. This follows last week’s DOTr memorandum directing the LTFRB to lift the suspension of fare hikes put into place in March, around the start of the war in the Middle East.

The DOTr states that the fare adjustments directly respond to the concerns of several public transport operators on increasingly high operating costs brought about by the fuel crisis. Some government figures previously said that a fare hike would be a “last resort” to support the public transport sector, expressing hesitance with passing on another financial burden to commuters.

2026 LTFRB fare adjustments

Jeepneys

1. Traditional jeepney – P14 minimum base fare for the first 4km (P1 increase from previous P13), plus P2 for every succeeding kilometer (P0.20 increase from previous P1.80)
2. Modern jeepneys – P17 minimum base fare for the first 4km (P2 increase from previous P15), plus P2.40 for every succeeding kilometer (P0.20 increase from previous P2.20)

Metro Manila buses

1. Ordinary bus – P15 minimum base fare for the first 5km (P2 increase from previous P13), plus P2.49 for every succeeding kilometer (P0.24 increase from previous P2.25)
2. Air-con bus – P18 minimum base fare for the first 5km (P3 increase from previous P13), plus P2.98 for every succeeding kilometer (P0.33 increase from previous P2.65)

Provincial buses

1. Ordinary bus – P12 minimum base fare for the first 5km (P1 increase from previous P11), plus P2.20 for every succeeding kilometer (P0.30 increase from previous P1.90)
2. Air-con bus – P2.45 for every succeeding kilometer (P0.35 increase from P2.10)
3. Deluxe bus – P2.60 for every succeeding kilometer (P0.35 increase from P2.25)
4. Super deluxe – P2.70 for every succeeding kilometer (P0.35 increase from P2.35)
5. Luxury bus – P3.35 for every succeeding kilometer (P0.45 increase from P2.90)

P2P, airport taxi, and TNVS

1. P2P bus – 15% increase based on existing fare
2. Airport taxis – P115 flag-down rate for the first 500 meters (P40 increase from the previous P75); no changes to rates per succeeding 300 meters and two-minute waiting time
3. TNVS – P20 increase on base fare (P65 for sedans, P75 for AUVs, P55 for hatchbacks, and P165 for premium TNVS); P15 pickup fare per kilometer; no changes to rates per succeeding kilometer and per-minute travel time

This round of fare adjustments is identical to the increases suspended in March by President Marcos Jr.’s direct order. The LTFRB also reminds the public that discounts for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students are to remain in place.

As of writing, transport groups MANIBELA and PISTON are still set to carry out their protests this week. The groups continue to protest against the continued surge of fuel prices, particularly diesel, which recently breached the P100 mark again.
