Big news from Geely Philippines. Five years after the brand relaunched in the country under Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), 2024 marks an end of an era. Local operations have been officially turned over to Geely Automotive International Corporation (GAIC).

“We extend our utmost appreciation for the successful experience with Sojitz G Auto Philippine, which has greatly contributed to Geely’s growth in the country. We are thrilled to assume Geely’s operations with continuous focus and passions. By leveraging our global strengths, we will introduce products meeting Filipino consumers’ needs. We commit to a seamless transition and continuing SGAP’s legacy of excellence,” said a statement from GAIC.

The first Geely model sold locally under SGAP was the Coolray. The subcompact crossover was able to quickly establish itself in the market and gave the brand enough confidence to further expand the range.

The Coolray was followed up by the Azkarra, a compact crossover. But the model that broadened Geely’s horizon was the three-row Okavango. It then entered the compact sedan market with the Emgrand, and joined the budget subcompact crossover fray with the GX3 Pro.

“We are proud of our achievements with Geely. Now that we are handing the business over to GAIC, we are confident in their ability to elevate the brand. We express our most profound gratitude to our valued customers, esteemed dealer partners, and industrious employees and anticipate Geely’s continued success in the Philippines,” per the statement from SGAP.

With that, Geely HQ now has direct control over Geely Philippines. This could potentially mean that we might see a wider variety of its products coming to the country, along with a couple of electrified models. Nothing is set in stone at the moment, but we can expect big plans and moves under GAIC management.

As for parts, service, and purchasing, Geely is reassuring its customers that operations will continue at current dealerships nationwide.
