GWM Philippines recently concluded its ‘Go 1000 More’ fuel economy run, a two-day challenge validated by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP). The challenge featured three of the Chinese brand’s models—the Cannon Lux 4x4, the Haval H9 Lux 4x4, and the Haval H7 Hi4 PHEV—attempting to cover a 1,000km+ route on a single tank of fuel. The Haval H7 PHEV also started with a fully charged battery.
The convoy took off from Nuvali in Santa Rosa, Laguna, and headed north to Laoag, Ilocos Norte, before doubling back to the starting point. The GWM vehicles traveled on different road types, including expressways, provincial highways, and city roads. The weather also fluctuated from clear conditions to heavy rain several times along the drive.
The fuel economy run produced interesting results. The Haval H7 PHEV notched up the best fuel efficiency among the three at 15.73km/L, but fell short of the target distance, covering just 932.4km. Meanwhile, the Cannon and the Haval H9 both went well past the target, covering 1,270km and 1,213.8km, respectively. The diesel-powered models also recorded respective fuel-economy ratings of 14.01km/L and 13.06km/L.

GWM Philippines shared that the fuel-economy run strictly followed the AAP’s methodology. This included filling fuel tanks to the brim before sealing the lids, inflating tire pressures to factory spec, and ensuring that the vehicles only used standard OEM equipment. Results were taken from the vehicles’ built-in trip meter readouts as well.
Dax Avenido, GWM Philippines brand head, commented on the ‘Go 1000 More’ fuel-economy challenge: “By running our diesel and PHEV models through hundreds of kilometers of expressways, provincial roads, and unpredictable weather, and having every kilometer verified by the Automobile Association of the Philippines, we’re showing Filipino motorists that capability and efficiency don’t have to be a trade-off.”
The Chinese automaker has expressed interest in performing additional tests in the future with other models in its lineup to provide customers with “a more complete, real-world picture of range and efficiency.”
