Chinese carmaker GWM came into our market swinging. Not only did it have a lot of different models available right off the bat, but it also took aim at arguably one of the hardest parts of the market to penetrate: the midsize-pickup segment.
Truck-loving Pinoys love their Toyotas, Fords, Mitsubishis, and Nissans. With these brands dominating the pickup game for so long, it’s made it hard for newcomers to make noise in such a stacked segment. GWM, however, has made itself heard with its 4x4 pickup offering in the Cannon.

It received a significant update in 2025, but it retained its reasonable price tag. It now comes with a new 2.4-liter turbodiesel that puts out 181hp and 480Nm of torque, which is much more than what its old 2.0-liter diesel engine made. The new powertrain gets a new nine-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, and is mated exclusively to a 4x4 drivetrain.
