Angkas CEO George Royeca had his driver’s license suspended by the Land Transportation Office (LTO), following the traffic jam caused by a motorcade of Angkas riders earlier this month. Royeca surrendered his license yesterday, which marked the start of the 90-day suspension.
Previous to this, Royeca personally visited the office of Cainta mayor, Elenita Nieto, to apologize and take responsibility for the traffic jam. He then promised to go to the LTO himself and pay for the fines incurred by the Angkas riders. The suspension of his license is part of the penalties he absorbed after assuming accountability.

Royeca said in a Facebook post after surrendering his license: “Certified Angkas na ako.
As mentioned, I accept full responsibility. We take this matter seriously and respect due process. That is why we voluntarily went to the LTO office to receive and review the show cause order and surrender my license. Makakaasa po kayo na patuloy naming pagsisikapan na maibalik at mapatatag ang tiwala ng riding community.”

After a motovlogger fatally crashed on Marilaque Highway last month, Royeca assembled a crowd of Angkas riders to advocate for better road safety and responsible motoring. The convoy of motorcycle-taxis headed towards the rally ultimately created the traffic jam which went viral on social media. This then was followed by a probe from Nieto and her office.
Royeca was quick to take responsibility, and also apologized to the Angkas riders involved, citing his shortcomings as their leader. It looks like he’ll be an Angkas passenger for the next few months, then.
