Back in June, Nissan started streamlining its operations across several markets in order to optimize its costs. This came along with plant shutdowns and thousands of layoffs. For our region, it was the integration of multiple production lines into the Samut Prakarn plant in Thailand.
Now, the Japanese carmaker has announced that this tedious process has been completed. This means key models in the region, such as the Almera, Kicks, Navara, and Terra, will now be manufactured in this facility.

Nissan also says this line integration will also prepare the plant for future new model localization.

“Building on Nissan’s long-term commitment to continued local production in Thailand, the transformation of our production lines will enable us to adapt quickly to changes in the market environment, enhance our competitiveness and drive robust and sustainable growth for our future in Thailand and ASEAN,” said Nissan Thailand and ASEAN president Toshihiro Fujiki. “We achieved one big milestone in Nissan’s journey in Thailand thanks to a strong synergy with our local partner as well as the contribution of all our staff at the manufacturing plant.
“Employees’ passion to embrace changes continues to inspire, and with this spirit, Nissan will continue growing together with Thai society while creating long-term value for our customers, employees, partners, and the wider community.”
Nissan has yet to share which other models will be manufactured at its Samut Prakarn Plant, but at the very least, we know that it’ll be status quo for our market for now. What we know is that the next new models that will be produced in Thailand will have a high chance of making their way to the Philippine market, so that’s something to keep an eye out for.
