At exactly 9am today, the first-ever Cebu leg of the Subaru Challenge commenced at Ayala Center. A total of 107 participants showed up for the chance to win a brand-new Subaru Impreza by being the last person left holding on to one of the Subaru cars used in the contest.
Only one among the 107 participants will advance to the regional final round in Singapore, where a new Impreza sedan awaits the victor. The winner of this Cebu leg will join one winner from the Pampanga leg, one winner from the Davao leg and seven winners from the Manila leg to form the Philippine contingent. To date, no Filipino has ever won the final round of the annual Subaru Challenge. Maybe--just maybe--a Cebuano can make history.
\"I want a Cebuano to win it all,\" declared Motor Image Pilipinas general manager Mike Luyun before the start of the contest.
Husband and wife Brian and Debbie Chua, who own the Subaru dealership in Cebu, were present to witness the opening ceremonies. A couple of their friends are actually competing in the challenge.
So, in case you\'re in Cebu today, you might want to drop by the venue and watch Cebuanos try to outlast each other. The contest will end at 10pm.
