The come-on should be a cliché by now, but it never gets tired: Do you want a free car? Or in the case of Subaru’s long-running annual contest, how would you like a free XV crossover? And the premise is as monumentally simple as it is supremely difficult: just hold on as long as you can.
We’re talking about the Subaru Palm Challenge. Every year, hundreds of participants from all over the Philippines place their hands on Subaru vehicles and try to outlast each other. The last 10 finalists will go to Singapore, where they will compete with contestants from other countries for the grand prize. The last man or woman standing wins a brand-new Subaru XV crossover. That simple.
The Manila leg for the Palm Challenge begins this weekend, August 13 to 14, 2016, at Bonifacio High Street, Taguig. The actual contest is on August 14, and you can click here to register. But a new addition is the Collegiate Edition, which will be on August 13. The students who participate here won’t go to Singapore, but can win gadgets, cash prizes, and support for their sports activities.
For non-Manila residents, the Cebu leg will be on September 3 at Ayala Terraces, while the Davao leg will be at SM Lanang on September 24.
Because it’s celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Motor Image Pilipinas will make this weekend’s event extra special. It has arranged test drives, Subaru car club displays, a lifestyle exhibit, and special offers for those who make a reservation for a unit that day.
So drop by the Bonifacio High Street area this weekend, and enjoy the treats Subaru’s local distributor has prepared. And if you’re feeling lucky, and very determined, maybe you can try your luck at the Palm Challenge (but do register ahead). We won our first Olympic silver medal this year after two decades, so a Subaru XV should be doable.
