Toyota\'s hybrid vehicle sales now at 6 million units globally

Toyota\'s sales of its hybrid vehicles recently topped the six-million-unit mark, with 6.072 million units sold as of December 31, 2013. The Japanese carmaker claims that its latest million-unit milestone was the fastest it has achieved at just nine months.

According to Toyota\'s calculations, by the end of 2013, its hybrid vehicles had resulted in approximately 41 million fewer tons of carbon-dioxide emissions--believed to be a cause of global warming--than gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size would have emitted.

Toyota also estimates that its hybrid vehicles have saved approximately 15 million kiloliters of gasoline compared to the amount used by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size.
