As if to celebrate Sebastian Vettel's second Formula 1 driver's title, Infiniti has revealed that it is producing the FX Sebastian Vettel Version. Based on the FX midsize luxury crossover, the FX Sebastian Vettel Version bears the German driver's input on its engine, styling and aerodynamics.
According to Infiniti executive vice president Andy Palmer, the FX Sebastian Vettel Version somewhat serves as the pilot project for the Infiniti Performance Line (IPL), which will compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz AMG and BMW M brand.
"We wanted to test the organization, can the organization cope with these kind of special versions," said Palmer. "This is one of the first versions that will go to market. Not as an IPL--it'll obviously go as the Sebastian Vettel special version, but it demonstrates we're able to do these low volume, very special versions and be able to charge a premium for that kind of work. Again, hopefully, with Sebastian now the world champion, the demand for his special version is going to be that much higher."
