The wait is almost over for those who've placed an order for the McLaren MP4-12C as the British supercar manufacturer has started the model's production at its McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England.
McLaren Automotive will build up to 1,000 of its latest supercar in 2011. Although 'Chassis 01' is being built in the Technology Centre, the rest will be manufactured at the McLaren Production Centre. Located close to the Technology Centre, the Production Centre is scheduled to be completed by May of this year.
Antony Sheriff, managing director of McLaren Automotive, noted how the MP4-12C has evolved in five years, from a concept developed in the company's Formula 1 simulator to what should be a "a groundbreaking high-performance sports car offering unique technologies and outstanding dynamic performance."
"It has been an intensive development program, but now the fun really begins as our future owners look forward to taking delivery of their 12Cs," Sheriff added. "Feedback from our customers shows they understand McLaren Automotive is as committed to delivering a high quality sports cars and a fantastic ownership experience as a our Formula 1 team is to winning races. With 'Chassis One' now in production, our new network of 35 retailers in 19 countries worldwide is ready to deliver on this promise."
