Mercedes-AMG has partnered with boat maker Cigarette Racing to create the "world's most powerful and fastest electrically driven motor boat" in the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept.
Drawing inspiration from the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive, Cigarette's concept power boat is finished in "AMG Electricbeam magno," the same matte chrome paintwork exclusively reserved for the SLS AMG electric car.
Beyond the exterior, the transfer of technology continues from the gull-winged car to the powerboat. The Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept uses two drive units, each with its own transmission and each featuring six independent electric motors--the same compact, liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors, which are the signature piece of the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive.
With each electric motor producing 185hp and 250Nm of torque, the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept boasts a maximum output of 2,221hp and 3,000Nm to give it a top speed of roughly 160kph, making it the "world's fastest electrically driven powerboat."
The boat draws power from liquid-cooled, lithium-ion, high-voltage batteries that generate a total capacity of 240kWh and an electric output of 2,400kW. Coupled with two 22kW on-board chargers used in the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive, the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept has a charging capacity of 44kW, with the battery being fully charged in approximately seven hours. To reduce the charging time to less than three hours, the powerboat can be fitted with four on-board chargers as an option.
