Here’s a progress report on the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX): Its next section, which terminates at the CALAX Governor’s Drive Interchange, is now 25% complete and is set to open in the first quarter of 2025.

The upcoming 7.8km segment will stretch from the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to Governor’s Drive. Excavation, bridge and drainage construction, and fence installation on this section are currently ongoing. Once completed, the new interchange is expected to decongest major roads like Aguinaldo Highway.

“Despite the challenges faced in construction brought about by the recent typhoons, we are pressing forward to ensure the timely delivery of the Governor’s Drive Interchange,” said Raul Ignacio, president and general manager of CALAX concessionaire MPCALA holdings. “Once operational, this vital infrastructure will ease traffic congestion, provide a faster route for thousands of motorists, and stimulate economic growth across Cavite and Calabarzon.”

As of this time, the entire CALAX project has an overall completion rate of 64%. It has two other major segments in construction: Subsection 2 or the Open Canal Interchange (15% complete), and Subsection 1 or the Kawit Interchange (25% complete). These sections are expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2025.

CALAX will eventually connect to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) via the Cavitex-CALAX Link. These tollways will reportedly shorten travel time from Kawit to the Mamplasan Interchange of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) from two hours to just 35 minutes.
