As the MRT gears up for operations for the general community quarantine, city leaders aren’t too sure about jeepneys and buses officially returning to the roads. There are certain hazards, of course, and protocols, including the idea of requiring a manifest, that are still being finalized.
One answer to some of the concerns may have already been built. Truck body builder company Centro Manufacturing Corporation has introduced sturdy anti-COVID-19 dividers for its utility vehicles.
While some PUV drivers have already shown ingenuity in dealing with the coronavirus situation, these ones are actually compliant with the requirements of the Land Transportation Office, which are “impermeable barriers between rows of seats that are less than one meter apart if they wish to maximize the 50% passenger load.”
The dividers are sold as ready-to-install kits and may be retrofitted to any existing PUV. There’s no drilling or any other construction involved. They’re also easy to clean and disinfect.
“As the pandemic situation improves and more and more UVs and PUVs are allowed to operate, we see the need for these UVs and PUVs to have dividers. This makes them perfect as the vehicle solution to mass transport and the shuttle requirements of offices and factories”, says Vic Belisario, Centro senior sales manager.
Centro Manufacturing Corporation is also in the process of patenting this product.
