The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), has issued an immediate suspension order for Solid North Transit. DOTr secretary Vince Dizon announced separately that all Solid North Transit operations are now suspended.

Earlier today, the LTFRB had already suspended 15 buses under the operation of Solid North Transit for 30 days. Those buses and their drivers would have need to complete a series of evaluations to prove roadworthiness and overall safety. With the entire fleet now suspended, it is unclear what the process will be for Solid North Transit to regain its license.

This issuance comes after a bus operated by Solid North Transit crashed into several vehicles on the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway on Thursday, May 1. Reports stated that the driver of the bus was either drowsy or completely asleep while at the wheel. At least 10 individuals, including four children, died, and there are at least 28 people in the hospital being treated for a variety of injuries.

The LTFRB has also pulled in the Passenger Accident Management and Insurance Agency to assist the survivors and the families of the victims from the crash. According to the LTFRB, those involved in the crash, including the families of the deceased, can obtain up to P400,000 in coverage and compensation.
