The Department of Public Works and Highways has temporarily suspended the maximum allowable gross vehicle weight among certain types of trucks and trailers, specifically for the 18- and 22-wheeler trailer types.
Prior to the suspension, 18-wheeler trucks and trailers had a maximum allowable GVW of 41,500kg, while 22-wheelers were limited to 42,000kg.
To prevent overloading, which has very significant damaging effects on highway safety and traffic operations, DPWH secretary Rogelio Singson reiterated that the axle load limit of 13,500kg will still be enforced nationwide.
The suspension of the maximum allowable GVW is in effect until January 31, 2014.
