We’ve seen our fair share of EDSA Busway violators over the past year or so thanks to the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation’s (SAICT) crackdown on these erring motorists. But just when we thought we’ve seen it all, a new one comes along and has us scratching our heads. Big time.
Recently, a SAICT secretariat Sarah Barnachea caught what appeared to be a white Cadillac Escalade with a protocol plate ‘7’ on the exclusive bus lane. The video uploaded on Facebook started with the SUV driver seemingly intimidating the enforcer by trying to run her over, while Barnachea was only trying to politely pull the vehicle over to verify the identity of the driver.

The Cadillac driver continued to resist apprehension, even going so far as reversing until he reached a gap in the concrete barriers wherein he was eventually able to escape and flee the scene. All this happened near the Guadalupe Station.
EDSA Busway violator tries to run over SAICT enforcer
As it turned out—to no surprise—the ‘7’ plate on the SUV was fake. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) conducted an investigation and confirmed this in a separate press release. “There was no protocol plate issued to the same type of vehicle,” the statement read.
The LTO also confirmed that a Show Cause Order will be issued to both the vehicle’s registered owner and the driver in the video.
Here’s hoping the motorist actually gets caught and that just penalties will be served. We don’t need drivers like these on our roads.
