The retrofied Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has been quite the hit since it was revealed about a year ago. Its new look has certainly gotten people’s attention, and one can say that it’s born to be a blank canvas for the aftermarket crowd.
Toyota seems to be aware of this too. With that, the Japanese automaker has made a pretty neat version of the popular SUV. Unveiled at SEMA 2024 is the ROX Concept, and it’s quite an extreme build.

Built at Toyota’s CALTY design studio in California, ROX stands for Recreation Open eXperience. The company said that it’s a homage to the open top Land Cruiser models from the past, the 40 Series being a prime example. At the same time, it’s a nod to Land Cruiser pickup models from back in the day. One can say that it combines two elements from the classic models.
Toyota showed details of its build process. Simply put, it’s not as simple as hacking the back end off and calling it a day. Extensive reengineering was made to ensure the structure is still sound, as well as redesigning the rear end to accommodate a new tailgate. Of course, there’s the off-road goodies attached to it, along with fabricated parts to make it truly unique.

Check out the build process below.
For the team that built it, they say that the Land Cruiser ROX is ‘a really nice combination of fantasy and potential reality.’ So, does this mean it’s going into production? If so, it probably won’t look as wild as this. This is a SEMA build, after all.

That said, Toyota did give a small hint by saying this concept is ‘envisioned as a future production model.’ Should it generate enough interest during the aftermarket show, it might just be enough for the bosses at Toyota to produce it for real.
