The San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has announced that it is waiving toll fees on all the expressways it currently runs on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Granted, it’s something SMC does every year, but it’s something worth pointing out.

“This is our way of saying thank you to everyone who uses the expressways we operate. It’s something we look forward to every year because it helps thousands of motorists get home to their families a little easier, especially during Christmas and New Year,” said Ramon S. Ang, chairman of SMC.

What are the expressways managed by SMC?

SMC Tollways

To know what expressways are free to pass through on those days, it’s worth knowing which of these toll roads are operated by SMC. These are:

  • Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX)
  • Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR)
  • South Luzon Expressway (SLEX)
  • Skyway System
  • NAIA Expressway (NAIAX)

What time will the free toll start?

It won’t be for the whole day of Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, if that’s what you’re thinking. Instead, there will be a set time for it all the way until the wee hours of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Toll fees will be waived from 10:00 PM on December 24 to 6:00 AM on December 25, and again from 10:00 PM on December 31 to 6:00 AM on January 1, 2025.

Are there additional safety and security measures on expressways this holiday season?

Per SMC, the answer is yes, especially given the additional volume of vehicles on the road. It includes:

  • Patrol and security personnel deployed in critical areas
  • Emergency response personnel on alert
  • Round-the-clock traffic monitoring
  • Suspension of roadworks that may affect traffic flow from  December 20, up to January 3, 2025
  • Placement of tow trucks and other emergency vehicles in strategic areas for faster response times

What are the emergency hotlines of SMC toll roads?

SLEX

For emergencies, motorists can contact the following hotlines for assistance:

  • Skyway System and NAIAx (02-53188655 or 0917-5398762)
  • SLEX (049-5087539 or 0917-6877539)
