Report: MMDA closes General Malvar U-turn slot along EDSA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be greeting 2021 with the closure of yet another U-turn slot along EDSA.

According to a report by The Philippine Star, the MMDA will close the U-turn slot near General Malvar/Bagong Barrio today, January 11. This is the same one that was initially scheduled to close on December 3 last year but was postponed to January 4. Motorists looking to use this U-turn slot are advised to take the Monumento Cloverleaf or the Balintawak Cloverleaf routes instead.

This is only one of the many U-turn-slot closures that the MMDA has announced over the past few months. All of these were done to make way for the MMDA’s EDSA Busway, the dedicated bus lane on the innermost lane of EDSA.

Hopefully, this new move by the MMDA won’t further worsen congestion along the major thoroughfare like the previous U-turn slot closures did. You may recall that back in December, the MMDA opted to reopen the Quezon City Academy and Dario Bridge U-turn slots to help alleviate traffic in those areas.

What say you, motorists? Is the MMDA making the right move here, or do you think this will be detrimental to both public and private vehicles alike? Share your two cents in the comments.
