Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has announced that the LRT-1 Cavite Extension is set to begin operations in November 2024, with the first phase or the first five stations ready to serve the riding public.
In addition, Secretary Jaime Bautista of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said that the extension’s opening will be on November 16.

The five stations opening this month are Redemptorist-Aseana Station, MIA Road Station, PITX Station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station, and Dr. Santos Station. This means the Light Rail Transit Line 1’s station count will increase from 20 to 25.

After this, three more stations are in the works: Las Piñas Station, Zapote Station, and Niog Station.

Currently, the average ridership of the LRT-1 is around 323,000 passengers per day. Once Phase 1 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension is fully operational, the rail line is expected to gain an additional 80,000 passengers during the first year of operations, with travel time from Quezon City to the end station in Parañaque City reduced to less than an hour.
