Huge news from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) this weekend: The first five stations of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension have officially been opened.
This project has faced several delays since its construction began several years back, but now the first phase has finally been completed. The first five stations are Redemptorist-Aseana, MIA Road, PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat).

The addition of the five new stations up the LRT-1’s daily capacity by 80,000 passengers. In total, 120 four-car fourth-generation light rail vehicles comprising 30 train sets that will be added to the rail line once the extension is completed, increasing the capacity further by 300,000.
The LRT-1 Cavite Extension will span 11.7km in total. The three remaining stations to be built are Las Piñas, Zapote, and Niog in Bacoor, Cavite.
