As of Wednesday, April 2, 2025, LRT-1 fares will start at P20 for Single Journey tickets and P16 for Stored Value cards. The fare hike was approved earlier this year on January 30, 2025.

According to the Department of Transportation, the fare hike is necessary to keep the operational viability of the LRT-1 train line. That would include regular maintenance and upgrades, as well as the ongoing expansion of the LRT-1 into Cavite.

Many social media users and commuter groups disputed the fare hike, however, the DOTr stood firm on its decision on the increase.

The agency’s official statement reads: “It [DOTr] believes that the fare adjustment is long overdue and is necessary to ensure the operational viability of the rail line and sustain its necessary upgrades for the benefit of the commuting public.” The DOTr also noted that this is only the second fare hike since 2023.

Department of Transportation statement on LRT-1 fare hike:

The LRT-1 starts at Fernando Poe Jr. Station in Quezon City, and extends to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque, with key stops along EDSA and PITX. Once complete, the LRT-1 should be able to service commuters with more stations in Las Piñas and Cavite. Hopefully these increased fares speed up the construction of this extension and reach more commuting Filipinos.

As mentioned, the new fares start at P16 for Stored Value cards, and P20 for Single Journey tickets. Prices will then top out at P52 for Stored Value cards, and P55 for Single Journey tickets.
