It’s been a long time since we got the Nissan Sentra in the Philippines. In some way, we had it in the form of the Sylphy, but the Sentra name itself has been away for over a decade. Still, it’s still a revered name, especially among those who grew up with one in the ‘90s.

Elsewhere, the Sentra is still a decent seller, particularly in North America. Given that the needs a shot in the arm, the brand has previewed the next-generation model.

While the compact sedan market isn’t what it used to be, it’s still an important segment nonetheless. If anything, it’s Nissan’s best-selling product worldwide if the Sylphy versions sold in China and Taiwan are to be included. All the more reason for the brand to give it a full rework.

By the looks of it, the next-gen Nissan Sentra will adapt a lower, longer, and sleeker design. There’s the low hood, T-shaped headlights, and coupe-like roof line that give it a sportier profile. It also looks like a totally new model and not a major facelift. A good thing given that the current version is now six years old.

It’s likely that the redesigned Sentra will be for the 2026 model year. Just in time given that the all-new Toyota Corolla might be out by then. At the same time, the current Civic will be a couple years old already. It’s crucial that the new Sentra be, at the very least, at par with the Honda given Nissan’s current status.

As for the odds of it coming to the Philippines, it seems slim. While the Civic is selling decently, the Corolla (in this case, Altis) hasn’t been a huge seller lately. Besides, Nissan Philippines discontinued the Sylphy due to low sales. But maybe if it carried the Sentra badge, it might actually do better.
