In case you missed it, there was a viral incident that saw a jeepney driver telling off a passenger to get off the vehicle. The reason? The passenger’s size.
The incident was filmed by the commuter herself and she has since filed a complaint of unjust vexation against the driver. On top of that, she also forwarded the complaint to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Following that, the LTFRB has reminded PUV drivers and operators that kicking off passengers due to size is, in fact, prohibited. The same goes for passengers who may have different physical appearances.
In a statement, the agency said, “The LTFRB condemns any form of shaming on public transport passengers, saying its doors are always open to complaints.” A second statement also said, “Naninindigan ang LTFRB na hindi palalagpasin ang anumang uri ng diskriminasyon upang magkaroon ng mas maayos, komportable, at ligtas na modernong transportasyon sa bansa.”
The LTFRB are currently assisting the passenger through the agency’s legal department. At the same time, the driver, his spouse, and the operator of said Jeepney have been slapped with a Show Cause Order. But aside from kicking off passengers, the LTFRB reiterated that charging plus-sized passengers double or triple the fare is also illegal.
