The Land Transportation Office has officially revoked the license of the driver involved in the fatal NAIA Terminal 1 crash that took place earlier this month. The driver has also been charged with reckless driving, under Republic Act No. 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code
According to the LTO, the driver was issued the maximum penalty allowed under RA4136. His license will be revoked for four years, and he will need to pay P2,000 in fines for reckless driving. The agency also reported that the driver did not give any statement to defend himself, or to plead with the penalties.

Shortly after the crash, the LTO initially suspended the driver’s license for 90 days, while New NAIA Infrastructure (NNIC) committed to performing a safety audit around the airport terminals.

Since then, the NNIC has redesigned the departure drop-off area at Terminal 1, with vehicles now facing away from the curbside and pedestrian area. Vehicles dropping off passengers are also lined up in a parallel layout, as opposed to the previous diagonal setup.
The airport’s operator announced that it will overhaul the departure drop-off area at Terminal 2 as well, while carrying out a complete inspection on all the security bollards installed in NAIA.
