The motorcycle taxi pilot run saga has been a roller coaster ride of sorts in the last 24 hours, and the plot continues to thicken following the most recent announcements from the Department of Transportation-Technical Working Group (DOTr-TWG).
In case you missed it, here’s a recap: The TWG presented during a Senate hearing yesterday its recommendation to terminate the pilot run and to blacklist Angkas as a provider altogether in the event that the Land Transportation and Traffic Code is amended to officially legalize these motorcycle-hailing services. Then, following the discussions made during the hearing, the agency announced that it is still considering the extension of the said pilot run. Now, the story has gone full circle as TWG chairman Antonio Gardiola Jr. confirmed in an interview earlier today that the pilot run will indeed continue.
Gardiola told CNN that this decision was made after the TWG took into consideration the sentiments shared during yesterday’s hearing. He said that the DOTr-TWG will meet with the service providers later today to further discuss the guidelines so they may continue with the said pilot run.
