There’s a rule I always follow when I’m driving: When I miss my turn, I make sure I find a safe spot to make a U-turn. Of course, it’s a given that said U-turn should also be legal regardless of where it is. It’s common sense—you can turn around without posing any risks and inconveniencing other road users.
Not all motorists are as mindful and cautious, though. Take, for example, this driver who was recently caught on camera making an illegal U-turn on EDSA. Across an island. Inside a tunnel. Everything he did in one short clip was wrong. It’s a perfect example of what NOT to do when you’re on EDSA and accidentally drive past your destination.

Let’s dive a bit deeper here, shall we? In the bigger image at the top of this article, you can see that the vehicle was over the island, which was completely wrong, sure. But to get there, he had to cut through the bus lane, which is a separate violation in itself.
After driving over the island, the motorist went past the bus lane on the opposite side—another violation—before proceeding to abruptly cut off the oncoming vehicles. That maneuver itself was dangerous enough, but the fact that he did this inside a tunnel in broad daylight made it even worse. If you’ve ever driven into these EDSA tunnels in the daylight, then you know how it might be difficult to see inside as you’re approaching it.
All the red flags in one video. Whatever the driver was thinking, we’re just glad nobody was harmed in the video. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has confirmed that it has identified the vehicle and that it will file a complaint to the Land Transportation Office so the latter can serve the erring motorist the necessary fines and penalties.
Again, this is a huge no-no. If you want to see what actually happened, click play on the embedded video below.
