Good news for motorists who’ll have to head out of town during the 2020 holidays: The Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) has announced it will not be collecting toll fees at its expressways for the 2020 holidays.
The expressways under the management of MPTC are the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Manila–Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), C5 Link, and Cavite–Laguna Expressway (CALAX). No toll will be collected at toll MPTC toll plazas during the following dates:
- December 24, 2020 (10pm) to December 25, 2020 (6am)
- December 31, 2020 (10am) to January 1, 2021 (6am)
The MPTC says it will have intensified operations until January 4, 2021, so that the public can experience “safe and convenient travel” during the 2020 holidays. This comes in the form of additional patrol crews, RFID assistants, and other vital personnel.
Construction and lane closures along MPTC expressways have been suspended until January 5 next year. A 24-hour towing service is also available at NLEX and SCTEX on December 26 and 27, and from January 2 to 3, 2021 (only for class 1 vehicles).
“This simple treat is part of our group’s initiative to give back to our customers especially this holiday season,” MPTC president and CEO Rodrigo Franco said in a statement, adding that all of the operator’s expressways are already prepared for an expected surge in motorists.
This is a nice gesture, but keep in mind the country is still in the middle of a pandemic. Do not hit the road unless necessary. Drive safe.
