It’s been a grim week in the world of motoring over the past week. After that freak accident involving a Solid North passenger bus, another fatal accident happened at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 (NAIA T1).

New NAIA Infrastructure and SMC president and CEO Ramon S. Ang has already confirmed he will be extending aid to all of the victims’ families. For its part, the Land Transportation Office immediately suspended the license of the driver of the black Ford Everest that caused the accident. Thereafter, it also issued a show cause order against the driver.

According to the SCO, the driver was supposedly caught by surprise by a sedan that crossed his path as he was about to depart the parking area. He “allegedly failed to transfer his foot to the brake pedal, resulting in unintended acceleration and a subsequent collision with several individuals in the area.” This entire mishap cost the lives of two individuals—one five-year-old child and one 29-year-old male—and injured three more.

The driver is now being called to the LTO’s office on East Avenue on May 8, 2025 where he will be required to explain why he should not be charged for Reckless Driving and have his license revoked. Stay tuned for more details until then—we’ll keep you posted. You can also check out the full document from the LTO below.
