The NLEX Corporation, operator of the North Luzon Expressway as well as the NLEX Harbor Link, Connector, and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, has provided free eye exams to 71 bus drivers ahead of the Christmas season.
This comes as the latest iteration of the tollway operator’s See Clearly, Drive Safely initiative, which started back in 2017. Since then, it’s estimated that almost 1,000 bus drivers have received free eye care from NLEX and its collaborators.

In partnership with Nagkakaisang Samahan Ng Panlalawigang Bus ng Pilipinas, licensed optometrists conducted eye check-ups, visual accuracy examinations, and refraction tests last November 12. Complementary reading and prescription glasses were then handed out to drivers in need.

Routine, accessible eye care is essential for these drivers, who come from some of the country’s largest bus companies. Participants in this year’s program operate vehicles for Baliwag Transit, Golden Bee Transport, Genesis Transport Service, Saulog Transit, Victory Liner, Bataan Transit, Luzon Cisco Transport, Pangasinan Five Star Bus Company, and Metrolink Bus.
Luis S. Reñon, president of the NLEX Corporation, further stressed the importance of these types of projects: “Clear vision is the first step toward safe driving. Our ‘See Clearly, Drive Safely’ program is more than just eye screening; it’s a direct investment in the health of our key stakeholders and, ultimately, the safety and reliability of the journeys of every commuter. Kapag malinaw ang mata, malayo sa disgrasya.”
