For those heading North in the coming days, brace yourselves. After an 18-wheeler truck crashed into the Marilao Interchange Bridge, NLEX Corporation will be conducting repairs on the damaged structure.
Because of that, several lanes will be occupied and significantly slow down traffic. The bridge is temporarily held up by metal supporters, but given how many vehicles pass through it, it can’t be held by those for any longer.

As it turns out, the damage the truck did to the bridge was far more significant than it first appeared. To recap, the trailer of said truck slammed into a section of the bridge as it exceeded expressway height limits. The impact was strong enough to damage the girders and affect its structural integrity.

How the truck was able to even enter NLEX is still a big question, although we’d like to think that’s under investigation. Either way, the damage has been done, forcing the closure of the second and third lane for northbound traffic as repair teams work on the bridge. Lane 1 (passing lane) and lane 4 (rightmost lane before shoulder) will remain open
Per NLEX Corporation, it is targeting to finish the repairs within two weeks. Of course, it will depend on how badly it compromised the bridge as crews take a closer look. It can be longer, or hopefully, shorter. That said, alternate routes have been put in place, and zipper lanes will be opened if possible.
With that, NLEX needs to get a move on as Holy Week is fast approaching.
