The Pasig River Expressway (PAREX), a project previously proposed by San Miguel Corporation (SMC), was the subject of great scrutiny from the public when it first surfaced. Transport and environmental groups alike continuously protested against it, and it was eventually scrapped earlier this year

Well, at least that’s what the last report told us.

But according to a recent report from ABS-CBN News, PAREX is still a possibility as SMC has yet to officially cancel the project.

“Technically, it’s still on the table because we have not yet officially (been) given confirmation that they are already terminating the contract or terminating the project,” TRB executive director Alvin Carullo recently told the media.

The TRB said that if the government were to cancel the project from its side, there would be legal and monetary consequences as the contract had already been signed and the project approved. At the moment, the project is stuck in the ‘final engineering design’ phase, and the government is still waiting on communication from the side of SMC.

What do you guys think? Should SMC reconsider its decision to abandon the 19km, six-lane elevated tollway project? Sound off in the comments.
