The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has issued a show-cause order on a driver who was seen illegally overtaking other vehicles on a two-lane street. In a video circulating online, a white SUV attempted to get past two tricycles by swerving into the opposite lane. The driver then almost hit a cyclist, forcing him to stop and move out of the way.
According to the summons, the driver may be administratively charged with Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136, or Reckless Driving. His license could also be revoked as per Section 27(a)—Being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

He will need to present himself and explain his actions on March 16, 2026, at the Land Transportation Office along East Avenue, Quezon City. In the meantime, the DOTr placed a 90-day preventative suspension on the driver’s license, while the SUV involved is now under alarm.

After issuing the order, DOTr secretary Giovanni Lopez stressed that motorists should be kinder on the road.
“Paulit-ulit po nating pinapaalala, maging maingat sa pagmamaneho sa lahat ng pagkakataon at magbigay konsiderasyon sa mga gumagamit ng kalsada,” said Lopez. “Maging disiplinado po tayong road user at huwag maging abusadong driver.”
