Why would you swerve like a madman especially with that many passengers?

One would think that it’s common sense to be extra careful while driving a vehicle loaded with passengers—for example, a jeepney—especially if it’s not fully enclosed. Of course, we’re reminded every day that common sense is an increasingly scarce commodity.

A jeepney driver is being summoned by the Land Transportation Office after footage of said driver went viral, wherein he was seen swerving wildly across rhe road, leading to to one of his passengers towards the rear being flung out.

Jeepneys in Metro Manila, Region III, and Region IV will be collecting a minimum fare of P10 beginning June 9, 2022

In the video, it can be seen that the ejected passenger rolled over the pavement a few times before coming to a stop. While no other info was available on what injuries this passenger suffered, it appears that he possibly avoided anything severe, as he managed to get up at the end of the clip.

The incident appears to have taken place late into the night on Aurora Boulevard, heading towards Cubao. As for the reason the jeepney driver made a reckless maneuver while having passengers in the back, it appears that he was either trying to overtake or evade another jeepney ahead of him.

Either way, both the registered owner and the driver of the jeepney can explain themselves directly to LTO chief Markus Lacanilao. He has sent out a show cause order to summon both parties, commenting: “Kapag ang isang driver ay nagdulot ng panganib sa kanyang mga pasahero at nabigong gampanan ang kanyang responsibilidad matapos ang insidente, kinakailangan itong agad na mapanagot.

The jeepney operator will be facing a charge of Employing Reckless, Insolent, Discourteous or Arrogant Drivers; the driver will be looking at both Reckless Driving and Duty of Driver in Case of Accident violations.

Plenty of Filipinos rely on passenger jeepneys to get around every day—all the more reason for their drivers to show proper manners and discipline on the road. Let’s hope that this incident serves as a reminder for everyone behind the wheel to exercise caution.
