Public transport is becoming more expensive all around. Yesterday, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) signed off on the increase of the minimum jeepney fare from P8 to P10. Now, the government body has done the same for buses.
According to a GMA News report, the LTFRB announced today its approval of the increase of the minimum fare for buses by P1. This means that the minimum fare for ordinary buses is now P11 from P10, and aircon buses will now cost at least P13 to ride instead of P12.
LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra III explained that the P1 increase applies to the first 5km of travel. After that, he says, commuters will be charged 15 centavos for every succeeding kilometer.
The new fares will be effective 15 days after the publication of the memorandum in a major newspaper, which Delgra says will “hopefully” happen tomorrow.
