As mentioned in our previous story, the Skyway Extension Project has resumed construction since May 15 after two months of inactivity. However, it seems that the 60-day setback has come at a price.

The San Miguel Corporation has now announced that due to the recent delays in its operations, it will be closing the Skyway Alabang southbound toll plaza from May 31 to June 15. This will make way for bored piling works around the southbound section of the Skyway Extension.

As a result, SMC will implement a new traffic scheme along with the help of the Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau. Private cars are advised to instead exit via Filinvest or take the National Road onto Susana Heights. Trucks and buses, meanwhile, are instructed to take the latter route.

We are happy to report that despite the long delay due to the ECQ and the limited workforce deployed, we’ve been gaining a lot of ground in terms of construction these past two weeks,” said SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang“Workers are also back at the site and earning income for their families. We’re asking for the public’s continued cooperation and kind understanding for any delays our work might cause.”

The resumption of construction has already seen the closure of about 700 meters of road along Lane 3 of the northbound Skyway at-grade section from the old Alabang Entry Plaza. This will also last for a month to allow for installation of scaffoldings before the columns from Pier 32 to 49 are built.

This project was set to be completed by December 2020, but SMC expects this date to be pushed back a bit further in light of the recent delays. For the meantime, motorists should take note of these recent changes to be implemented along the southern tollway.
