Skyway Stage 3 has been partially open since late last month, but the official opening on January 14 is right around the corner. In preparation for the event, management has announced some temporary closures to add some finishing touches to the elevated expressway.

Motorists, take note: Skyway Stage 3 will be closed from 10pm to 4am on January 6 and 7. That’s tonight and tomorrow, in case you’re not too good with dates.

In a statement, the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) said it will take this opportunity to install street lights and perform other construction activities.

“We’re happy that the Skyway 3 is helping ease travel and will efficiently reduce the volume of traffic along EDSA as we envisioned it. There’s still some finishing work on the main north-to-south stretch that we are completing, but come January 14, motorists can expect an even better experience at Skyway 3,” SMC boss Ramon S. Ang said.

“For these closures, we will start installing our street lights. This will further improve motorists’ experience and make the expressway even safer. As they enjoy toll-free travel at Skyway 3, may we also remind motorists to be mindful of the speed limit and practice usual road courtesy with fellow motorists.”

Traffic along the elevated expressway is still relatively light, but there’s no doubt motorists will begin feeling its effects once more cars begin taking to the streets. The hope is that the 18km piece of infrastructure will cut travel time from Makati City to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) to just 20 minutes, and travel from Alabang to NLEX to just 30 minutes.

Finally. It’s hard to believe SMC managed to pull this off despite everything that’s happened in 2020, but here we are. How often do you think you’ll be using Skyway Stage 3 to get around?
