Late last night, the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) announced that it would be closing down Skyway Stage 3 beginning 5pm today. Supposedly, this move came following a directive from the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) ordering a halt to the expressway’s operations until all of its ramps are open to motorists.
The TRB is denying that it released such a directive.
In a statement, the Board insists that it did not order SMC to close Skyway Stage 3. According to the government agency, it wants the newly opened expressway to remain available for motorists to use.
“This is to inform the public that the Toll Regulatory Board did not issue a decision or directive ordering the indefinite closure of the Skyway Stage 3 starting 5pm of 16 March 2021,” the TRB said.
“The position of the TRB and its management is to keep Skyway Stage 3 open for the benefit of all motorists,” the agency added.
No updates yet from either SMC or the TRB regarding a Skyway Stage 3 closure later today, but according to Department of Transportation (DOTr) assistant secretary Goddes Hope Libiran, “as far as TRB is concerned, no such directive was given.” A simple case of miscommunication, perhaps?
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more updates.
