Watch: Typhoon Ulysses turns SLEX into a body of water

“Sir, okay po ito sa baha.” This is what the sales agent at the dealership was talking about when he was highlighting your vehicle’s ‘impressive’ ground clearance (even though the proper barometer would be wading depth).

If you checked in on social media when you woke up this morning, you’re probably aware that parts of Luzon are currently flooded after being battered by Typhoon Ulysses overnight. This includes several major thoroughfares, including the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

Perhaps left with no other choice, motorists who found themselves traversing SLEX earlier today had to plow through flooded sections of the expressway to make it to their destinations. The footage below captured by Facebook user J. Czar Garcia shows vehicles, including a low-riding Toyota Wigo, attempting to ply a single passable lane on SLEX this morning. Watch:

By the looks of the video, this happened on the Northbound side of SLEX near Susana Heights and the Manila-Cavite Expressway (MCX) interchange.

If you still have plans to drive out today, you may want to reconsider unless it’s absolutely necessary. According to a severe weather bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) earlier today, Metro Manila and Central Luzon can expect more heavy rainfall until this afternoon.

There’s a good chance that areas like this will be completely impassable to all cars as the day moves forward. Again, drive safe out there.
