Residents of Valenzuela City can now enjoy a new public space with the opening of the Valenzuela Boardwalk on September 21, 2024. The so-called linear park crosses the barangays of Coloong, Tagalag, and Wawang Pulo.
The structure on which this boardwalk stands was originally a flood control dike, built to manage the flow of water between Valenzuela and Meycauayan, Bulacan. “Ito pong boardwalk natin ay hindi lamang pasyalan, kung hindi ho ay proteksyon para sa ating mga barangay,” said Mayor Wes Gatchalian of Valenzuela City.

The boardwalk is 1.3km long and four meters wide. It is open from 5am to 10pm daily. Aside from being a linear park, it also incorporates a bike trail to promote a healthier lifestyle through “long runs, health walks, and cycling activities.”
To celebrate the opening of the facility, the local government held a fun walk for senior citizens as well as a free two-day go-karting activity for children over the weekend.
The Valenzuela Boardwalk is the latest among the city’s efforts to promote public spaces. In 2022, Valenzuela completed the pedestrianization of Fatima Street to prioritize people instead of vehicles.
