Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. It’s a saying that I’ve already used one too many times to begin my stories. As much as I avoid using it, I can’t help it when it’s the Internet itself that keeps giving me reasons to do so.
The latest thing to go viral that has me scratching my head yet again is the video of an alleged drunk driver blatantly disregarding traffic signs in BGC and counterflowing on a one-way street. In the video originally posted on TikTok by user ‘hombre_estu’ and reposted on Reddit (warning: there’s a lot of profanity in the video) by some kind netizens, the supposedly intoxicated driver explicitly said that he could disregard the traffic rules, saying: “Basta ako, puwede.” He got caught, of course, but an even bigger mistake he made was posting it on social media.

Now, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show-cause order (SCO) against the driver, who might now have his driver’s license revoked. The agency also shared that the motorist “appeared to be proud in driving recklessly while drunk.”
LTO issues show-cause order against viral drunk driver in BGC:
“Isa itong iresponsableng gawain na naglalagay sa alanganin ng buhay ng mga road users,” said LTO chief Atty. Vigor Mendoza II. “Mabuti na lamang at hindi ito nagdulot sa isang aksidente. Hindi natin palalampasin ang mga ganitong asal sa kalsada. Kaya tayo ay nag-issue ng [SCO] laban sa may-ari ng sasakyan at driver nito.”
The SCO mandates the owner and driver of the vehicle in the video to submit a written explanation on why he should not be held liable for cases of Reckless Driving, Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor or Narcotic Drug, and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle. He must also appear at the LTO Central Office on October 15, which is just a few days away.
That’s that, then. But seriously, what was the goal here? To look cool? For clout? Well, if it’s attention this guy was looking for, then now he’s got it. All eyes on him when he finally faces the LTO.
