Porsche has reached a milestone for the Boxster and its sister model, the Cayman, as the German carmaker has broken the 300,000 mark for the vehicle's production, nearly 15 years to the month since the first-generation model was made.
Marking the milestone as the 300,000th unit to be built is a Boxster Spyder with a Platinum Silver metallic finish and Carrera red natural leather interior trim. The unit rolled off the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen production line in June and is destined for a German customer.
Porsche credits the Boxster and the Cayman's success to the cars' mid-engine concept and to the fact that the carmaker is continuing the development of both models.
The current variants for the droptop roadster are the Boxster, the Boxster S, the Boxster S Black Edition and the Boxster Spyder while for the hardtop coupe, these are the Cayman, the Cayman S, the Cayman S Black Edition and the Cayman R Coupé. Powerplant options for these two model lines range from 255hp to 330hp and thanks to Porsche Intelligent Performance, fuel consumption is between 9.4L/100 km (equivalent to 10.64 km/L) and 9.8L/100 km (10.20 km/L).
