Porsche's Carrera models aren't the only ones that are getting the Black Edition treatment as the German carmaker has seen fit to apply it to the Boxster S as well.
Limited to just 987 units, the Boxster S Black Edition gets a 10hp bump over the standard Boxster S for a total of 320hp on tap along with 370Nm of torque through its 3.4-liter flat-six engine. With a standard six-speed manual transmission, this limited-edition Boxster accelerates from zero to 100 kph in 5.2 seconds--a tenth of a second faster than the regular Boxster S--before attaining a top speed of 276kph, outpacing its donor car by 2kph. With the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), however, the Boxster S Black Edition's zero to 100kph acceleration time is faster by 0.1 second although its top speed is slower by 2kph.
Of course, like its Black Edition Carreras stablemates, the Boxster S Black Edition applies the achromatic shade in almost every detail. The rear side air intake grilles are painted black and so too are the roll-over bars and the exhaust system's twin tailpipe. The model lettering painted in black on the rear luggage compartment lid identifies the Black Edition as much as the embossed Black Edition model designation on the side of the fabric hood.
Its interior also gets the same treatment, like the stainless steel door entry guards which render the "Black Edition" model lettering in black while the trim strips on the dashboard and on the gear shift lever or gear selector are painted in black as well. The instrument cluster dials are also done in black as are the partial leather seats with also have the Porsche emblem embossed in the headrests. The Boxster S Black Edition's interior can also be swathed in black leather while the limited edition badge on the glove compartment reminds the occupants that the car is a Black Edition model.
As further testament to the Boxster S Black Edition's desirability, the otherwise optional "Comfort," "Infotainment" and "Design" equipment packages all come as standard with the model, making its €63,404 price tag (over P3.8 million at €1:P60.367) a relative bargain compared to a series model with the same equipment options.
