The 2014 staging of the grueling Dakar Rally kicked off last weekend, and it seems Mini is off to a great start in its bid to capture its third straight overall victory in its category with three of its entries finishing in the top three overall spots on the third day of the race.
Nani Roma, the 2004 Dakar Rally motorcycle champion, finished in first place in the yellow Mini All4 Racing, while Krzystof Holowczyc took second in the 301km stage from San Rafael to San Juan in Argentina. Orlando Terranova finished fourth for the day, while Nasser Al-Attiyah ended the race in seventh.
Heading into the fourth day, this put Mini on the top three overall spots in its class with Roma in first, Terranova in second and Al-Attiyah in third.
"It was a good day for us, and leading the Dakar Rally definitely feels great," said Roma after the race. "We know that the race for the 2014 Dakar title is still a long one. But today gives us an extra motivation."
